Today is the first day of the kids' 5 day weekend. Tomorrow the girls are going to PA to spend a few days at their friend Genevieve's lake house. Then Daddy is going to pick them up in PA on Sunday and bring them back here. He and N will spend Saturday and Sunday at the lake house in Shohola.
A few other updates:
We had parent teacher conferences at Deal today. As always we heard wonderful things about the girls and how lovely and smart they are! It is great to finish out the year at Deal so strongly. "I wish all of my students were like the girls." "The girls are a joy to teach." (That's the type of thing we hear.)
Tomorrow we meet with Sidwell to decide what classes A will take next year.
Yesterday Daddy and M participated in a mini-sim for Model UN. Daddy wrote this update:
M and Daddy participated tonight in a special Model UN "double del" (double delegation — two people as a team) "mini-sim" (mini-simulation) for kids and parents. About 25 parent-kid pairs participated. The topic was child labor laws, and it was a mock meeting of UNICEF. The teams got to pick any country they wanted, and M picked Afghanistan! Needless to say, Daddy was in heaven — getting to participate in a mock international diplomatic venue, focused on Afghanistan and international human rights issues, and with his daughter! What could be better?? They had a great time, and M drafted a whole position paper the night before, complete with sections on Topic Background, Past International Action, Country Policy, and Possible Solutions. The session was very impressively run, following Robert's Rules, all under the guidance of Ms. Trankel, who's been a phenomenal advisor for Model UN the past few years. Of the 4 resolutions introduced at the end of the session, only the one drafted by M (and another girl headed to GDS next year) was actually adopted. Congratulations!
And N went to the girls' orthodontist appointment today and wrote this adorable paper while there:
And he and I worked on his habitat diorama today. He is doing sea turtles.
