So many things happened this weekend and I didn't have a chance to post for three days! I will try to recap it all here.
1) M went to a Model UN exercise downtown near the State Department on Friday. She represented Mali and presented a motion abut gender equality in education. She did such a good job that she and her partner got an honorable mention! The best part was when she FaceTimed me from the event and asked if she could buy a muffin. 🙂
2) On Friday night Daddy, the girls and I went to see Freaky Friday the musical at Signature Theater. It was great and provided some much-needed levity in a dark week. It was funny, touching, well-acted, well-written, and had good songs. A win.
3) On Saturday, I went with the girls to Ellie's bat mitzvah in the morning while Daddy ran errands with N. It was very special: Ellie did her speech about standing up for yourself and what you believe in, and she talked about how she had learned about a special ballerina from a good friend. The ballerina? Misty Copeland. M was beaming. It was very sweet. Then when the rabbi invited young people to come up to the bimah during the kiddush, M&A were the first and among the only friends to go up. Ellie's party was on Saturday night in Rockville and it was a lot of fun. We were invited too and we got to hang out with the girls and dance with them and celebrate. Some pics:
4) Yesterday, Grampy came over in the morning to celebrate his birthday with bagels and special brownies made by M. Then we spent much of the day cleaning up and preparing for the Yellow Base potluck at our house. (Daddy took a break to go play soccer at Lafayette with M.) Most of the Yellow Base parents came, as did Ms. Ghamarian. Nate was so excited to have her here. She saw his room and was very sweet with him. Sarah also came over for a little while so N had a partner in crime to run around with. And Daddy and I enjoyed meeting more of the parents from N's class.
5) A made this great infographic about Hatshepsut:
5) And A had her first rehearsal for Midsummer Night's Dream today after school!
Lots going on.
