Ear Infection, The Washington Ballet, and My Best Girls

Poor A. She had a bad earache yesterday and last night, and woke up at 4AM crying because it hurt so much. (I am very sympathetic because I have had ear infections before – even recently – and I know that they are very painful.) This morning, I took M to school and then took A to see Dr. Fink. He took one look at her good ear, and one look at her bad ear, and confirmed that it is infected. Poor girl.

Fink called in a prescription to a pharmacy en route back to school, and we stopped and picked up the meds and more Motrin. I was nagging A to get her medicine down more quickly and she kept saying that it was making her feel sick. I pooh-poohed her until she threw it all up, along with the Sprite I had gotten her to wash it down. Poor girl – not fun. I texted Fink and he called in a different prescription – this time for pills! A's first time.

A went to school for a few hours and then the Motrin started wearing off. Imogene went and got her around 1:30 and she came home, took some Tylenol, and took a nap. Tonight, she took the pills!! I cut them in half and she put them in jello and slurped them down. (Her idea!) Well done and much less trauma than the liquid this morning.

Hopefully she should be feeling better soon.

Some funny Nateisms:

1) We had the game on tonight, and he asked me why I wanted to watch it. I said, "Because we want the team in white to win. Who are they, N? The Washington… " and he said "Ballet!"

2) Then he looked at the screen and said, "Where is Jayson Werth?" So funny! He's never asked after a particular player. Sadly Jayson Werth was just put on the DL for 15 days.

3) We have been reading a book called "Home", which has all sorts of homes in it. N loves it. He calls it "Homesnap". He likes to ask me questions about the people in the book, and he asked what two kids' names are. I said, "I don't know, what do you think?" and he said, without missing a beat, "Theo and Emily."

4) N was lying on the couch, watching the game with his feet up on the ottoman. Then he said, "This is the life." I asked him where that came from, and he said, "From my mouth."

Jokester.

The girls navigated an unusual and unpleasant situation with a good friend at school today, and they handled it very calmly and compassionately. I am proud of them, as always.
