Glory and Heartbreak in Two Hours

Today was the Spelling Bee. It was a great day for M and a tough day for A.

A tough day for A because her nerves got her rattled, and she misspelled her first word – SWIPE – a word she knew how to spell. The wrong letter came out of her mouth. It sucked. She's been a very good sport about it today, but she is very disappointed, which we totally understand.

A great day for M because she came in SECOND in the Spelling Bee! Out of 56 kids she came in second place, and she is going to represent Lafayette in the regional spelling bee at the end of February! YAY!!!!!

She spelled a lot of words right, and at the end it was just her and Christopher O'Brien. She got NAPOLEON, which she misspelled (she hadn't seen it before). But then he misspelled his word, so the round started over. M then misspelled CONGELATIVE, another word she had never seen before, and Christopher spelled his word correctly, so the bee was over.

We are so proud of both of the girls. It is VERY nerve-wracking to be in a spelling bee!
