The Weekend In Review

We had a great weekend with a lot going on!! I haven't posted since Thursday (gasp!) so there is a lot to catch up on.

Friday was a normal day of camp, plus the monsoon that accompanied the girls right when they were dropped off by the bus. They were very wet when they got home. Friday night we had a family dinner – grilled shrimp with pineapple, and I missed out on the rest of the night because I fell asleep on the couch.

Saturday was a beautiful, sunny day here. We didn't do too much in the morning – the girls practiced for their piano recital and we worked on a new puzzle. Here is the puzzle:

We also went through all the books on the girls' bookshelves and removed the ones they've outgrown and made piles for summer: required reading by school; books M wants to read; books A wants to read; books M&A want to read; and books one of them MIGHT want to read.

A had an excellent voice lesson – they did "Popular" from Wicked again, and next week he wants her to do a song from "Les Mis".  Then we had a very relaxing few hours swimming at Nana and Grampy's house. Emily and Sarah were there too so it was a lot of fun.

Today was a VERY busy day. A and I left at around 10:30 to go to VA, where we volunteered for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, something A has wanted to do for a while. We were assigned to Drake, a 4 year-old Husky mix who is in need of a home. We showed him to people who were interested in him. Sadly, no one adopted him today, but 15 dogs were adopted thanks to the event today. It was VERY hot and we were pooped by the time we left! Here is A with Drake:

M, meanwhile, had a playdate at Alida's house and got to go swimming, so she was nice and cool.

Tonight was the girls' recital. They were WONDERFUL! They each played 10 pieces, plus 2 duets (one with A & Grandma and one with A&M). They did a great job. We are so grateful for the instruction they get from Grandma Sandy, and for the recital and the party. Thank you so much, Grandma Sandy! They are much improved from last year, and it really showed. They had a great time and they really did well.

We have LOTS of photos to share, plus video, which I will upload this week. Here are a few pics:

After the recital, after N went down we watched a great documentary on PBS about the casting, rehearsing, and staging of the song "It's The Hard-Knock Life" from the revival of "Annie". The girls loved it.

Off to bed for everyone. It was a tiring weekend!
