The Artists Speak

The girls had a good Memorial Day today. We went out for dim sum brunch with some friends, which they liked OK. Then they had a 3 1/2 hour playdate at their friend Emily's house. They came home, hung out for a bit, and then we had dinner with Grandma Sandy. A relaxing way to kick off summer, unofficially!

The little boy is walking, walking, walking. By himself, all over the place. He loves to walk! He is into everything, too. And now he won't sit down in the bathtub anymore – he will only stand up. Makes things difficult. I had sent his bath ring down to the basement but I am thinking of bringing it back up, as he seems to like the security of it.

A few weeks ago, the girls brought home a batch of artwork. I photographed it and here it is, with commentary from the artists:

"It was supposed to be a graveyard. We did it around Halloween."

"This is my arpietta. I had to write about it. The picture is of a girl who is shoveling."

IMG_8355

"The pom poms are flowers. She is on a trail, and the button is a shovel."

"This is my memorial that I didn't get to color in. I think we were supposed to do more detail but we didn't have any time to do it. We were supposed to make our own building with a sky in the background."

"That is the Cathedral. It was easy to draw. It's not my favorite."

IMG_8346

"It's a graveyard. It is too busy for me. If you look carefully, the skeletons are dancing and the ghosts are wearing sunglasses and the tree is a nerdy dude. Look at the moon – it's supposed to be like the cat in Alice in Wonderland upside down."

IMG_8347

"That is my Under the Sea picture. I just think it's pretty."

IMG_8348

"This is my memorial. It was super easy so it's not that good. It's a sunny day."

IMG_8349

"This was my draft one that I didn't like so I didn't do it."

IMG_8351

"That's a dragon. It's supposed to be cute."
