Two exciting things for N:
First, he was selected to be one of the fifth graders to do CCNN, the Chevy Chase News Network. It's a big commitment – every three weeks, he is on for a week. CCNN students put on the morning news broadcast for the whole school. He had to apply, come up with ideas, etc. Most of the kids who applied were selected, but still, it's a big deal. Tomorrow morning he will be going in early for a little preview. If you've ever heard N commentate a Nats game, or any other game for that matter, then you know that this is a good fit for him.
Second, N has been trying out for some select baseball teams. He tried out for BCC Select last week and today he tried out for MCLL Select. Select teams practice more frequently, have more games, and have a higher level of play than rec teams. Today he had a 1:1 tryout with a coach for MCLL since we missed the general tryouts yesterday. He played better than I have seen him play and the coach was impressed. He said it is likely that N will make the select team, either low A or high B. So that's exciting. I want him to try out for a travel league called Wild Bill as well, but those tryouts happened the night of our party and I can't seem to get the coach to respond about a 1:1 tryout (though he has said it was possible in the past). We are running out of time to make it happen since he leaves for camp on Saturday…
The girls are away at beach week! We miss them a lot already. A little taste of what's to come. Dad drove A to the OBX last night after M's graduation, and then he turned around and drove right back. Now that is devotion!
M returns Friday, A returns Saturday.
