Cranky and Ice Cream

This morning, M told me that she didn't want me walking her across the field at school to the place where the kids line up for school. She wanted to go alone and she specifically DID NOT want me with her. A wanted me to drop her off, but M started putting on such a fuss about it that I obeyed her for the sake of getting them to school on time and not in tears.

I will admit, though: I was SAD.

I stood on the field and looked at the blacktop where they were lining up for about 5 minutes. Just stood there. I couldn't see them anymore, but I still looked, in the hopes that they'd materialize and I'd watch them walk safely into the school. Then I finally left. I toyed with the idea of calling the school later or driving by just to make sure they got into their classrooms safely, but I didn't. I kept reminding myself that there was nowhere else for them to go and that there were lots of parents around.

So.

When I got home tonight, M came running out to the car, and the first thing she said to me was, "Mommy, you can walk me to school tomorrow!" I was so happy. She said that she realized how much she missed me after she left me, and that it felt like "driving a car for the first time, but Mommy wasn't there." AW.

Unfortunately, she was very cranky the rest of the night. I took the girls out for ice cream, which was fun except when M was yelling at me or A. Some pics from the market:

Meanwhile, are you wondering what's been happening with the kitchen? Well, that makes two of us! The counters were supposed to be installed today, but they came and were wrong. Almost all of them. So our contractor's promise of a functional kitchen by the weekend is out the window.  We've been waiting and waiting and waiting, so I guess we will have do more waiting.

They WERE able to install one counter, and replaced a cabinet that wasn't right the first time it arrived. Here are some photos that don't do the kitchen justice:
