I fell asleep at my laptop last night and didn't get a post up before midnight, so I am posting today for yesterday and today.
Last night, I dialed Daddy's cell phone # and then handed M the phone. I asked her to ask Daddy when he was coming home. She waited a few seconds, said "Hi Daddy! It's M. When are you coming home? [pause] OK." She looked at me and said, "He's leaving in 5 minutes." I said, "Really?" She said, "No, I was just tricking you. He's not on the phone." Very well done! Later, I dialed his number again and she did it again, only this time, I said, "Ask Daddy what street he lived on in San Francisco." She reported back the right answer, so I knew he was really on the line. Those girls keep me on my toes!
I learned from the girls that the boy who says funny things to A was sick yesterday. A said she wanted to make him a card. Well, it turned out to be 5 cards. She wanted me to deliver them last night, but Daddy decided that was a bit too stalker-y, so I waited and delivered them this morning when I walked Allie. Clearly, there is more going on than A being irritated by this boy; she encourages and affirms him too.
I volunteered in their class for Journaling this morning, and when I got there, the boy in question was there (he must be better). I asked A how he liked the cards, and she said he told her he loved them. Then, the teacher was talking about presidents, and what they do. The kids had a few questions. A said, "I can't wait for there to be a woman president." The teacher said, "I bet there will be one in your lifetime," and the boy said, loud and clear, "I vote for A!" (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) BTW, M said, "But I don't want to be president!"
In their journals, the kids had to complete this sentence: IF I WERE PRESIDENT I WOULD…
A said: "… end all wars."
M said: "… help everyone buy a house."
[OK, I helped a little with those. But here's what M did come up with on her own: She said she'd be a photographer, and take pictures of people, and they would pay her, and then with the money she would buy Imogene a house.]
As always, so fun to be in the girls' classroom.
This was a wonderful, newsy blog. I enjoyed all of it. It’s great that mommy is so active in the girls’ school activities. It’s good that the boy who had given A such a hard time seems to be a friend now. I hope someday we do have a woman President.
Love,
Aunt Ann
