Marathon Day

Marathon day.

First up was Pajama Day at school. The girls were very excited to wear their pajamas to school – M wore the ones that say "Daddy’s Little Chickadee" and A’s were glow-in-the-dark skeleton pajamas. They were especially excited when they got to school and learned it was their teacher’s birthday.

I picked up both girls at 11:15 and took them to the dentist. There was bad news, and worse news. First, M has a cavity. Some readers of this blog will chuckle to learn that when the dentist discovered the cavity, she said, "Yep, she’s a W_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _" (my last name). Runs in the family (Annie, Emily, Sarah, Rachel). So she will need to have it filled next month. The worse news is that M’s front tooth, which she hurt a few weeks ago, is fractured. It should be removed, or there is a risk of an abcess forming. The adult tooth won’t be in for another year or so. We may take a wait-and-see approach, monitoring her gumline for infection but leaving the tooth in place. It makes me so sad to think of her losing her tooth so early.

A hung out at the dentist and got a manicure. She doesn’t need a cleaning until December. They treated her like a princess, regardless, and gave her a goody bag of stickers and stuff as well.

We came home and met a friend of mine from work who just had a baby and was returning my pregnancy pillow. Her baby is so little – 2 months! The girls were pretty much not interested in him.

After lunch, we went to the pediatrician’s office for a flu snort-up-the-nose. It was painless – no tears. I felt the need to tell everyone that it had been Pajama Day at school so that they wouldn’t think I was a lazy mommy who hadn’t changed her girls when they woke up.

Then we came home, and the girls drew quietly at the table for almost an hour. They made some very impressive drawings – mostly ballerinas. I was quite proud of them.

Next up was a surprise visit from Buppie and Debbie, who is a faithful reader of the blog and knew exactly what the girls had been up to. Debbie taught them some scales on the piano and M and A and I danced around the living room. Thanks for the visit, Buppie and Debbie!

Next up… Bethesda for "dinner". We ran into M’s "best friend" Jessica at the restaurant and they were very excited to see each other. So excited that she, and A, barely ate a bite. Then we all went as a group to the bookstore for the Pajama Party/storytelling. It was fun but chaotic. Tons of kids from the school running around. We had fun, but by the end of it, I was BEAT. There were chocolate chip cookies out, but the girls missed them, so I let them split one from the bookstore. Finally, we returned home, had a bath, and then had a second dinner – scrambled eggs and grilled cheese sandwiches.

The girls are finally in bed. Poor Imogene was feeling bad today and ended up waiting in the ER for 7 hours to see a doctor. She is better now and at home. We have been thinking of her and want her to get better soon.

Sleep calls.

Wow, you must be exhausted. I’m sad too to hear about M’s tooth. But a year is going to fly by!

Wow! What a busy day, but a fun day for the girls. I hope M’s tooth can remain where it is — for a while at least. I hope you are okay, Mommy, since you had a non-stop day today which takes lots of energy. You are such a loving and giving Mommy. The girls are so lucky to have you, and their Daddy too.
Love,
Aunt Ann
