Yesterday on the way to drama class, the girls engaged in a hysterical free association session. Here are the topics they covered in a 10-minute stretch:
- How much M loved the waterslides we went to in Seattle. We discussed which ones she was too scared to go on, which ones I went on, which ones Daddy went on, and the fact that Daddy was the last one to go one of the slides the day we were there.
- How long it takes to drive to NY for Darrah’s wedding. M asked if we could fly a kite from the car on the way to Brooklyn. (No.)
- M asked why people sometimes put their finger in their mouth while they are reading. I figured out that she is referring to when people moisten their finger in order to turn a page, like Daddy does. A said she doesn’t want to do that, because it gets the page wet. M said she doesn’t want to do that because she doesn’t want to get germs on the book.
- I told M the other day that I was giving away a book I didn’t want on my other blog. Out of nowhere, she asked, "Why do other people want to have the book you don’t want?" I explained that there are a lots of books out there and that different people like different kinds of books.
Today A came with me to walk Allie. She said that when she is a mommy, she doesn’t want to walk her dog. I said, "Why not? Because it seems like a pain?" She said yes. So I said, "Well, dogs need to have walks. But if you don’t want to walk a dog, you don’t have to have a dog." She said that she wanted to have a dog no matter what. "So," I asked, "who will walk the dog, if you don’t?" She said, "You and Daddy!"
All in all, a busy weekend. Lots of activities yesterday – drama class and an afternoon fair. Today we stuck close to home and got a lot of things done around the house.
Last night, Emily babysat for the girls – what a treat! In honor of her upcoming 17th birthday, we made her cards and cupcakes. Happy early birthday Emily!
The girls’ free association is so cute. Thanks for sharing that.
M and A are growing up too fast. They are so very clever and so sweet.
Love,
Aunt Ann
