Mommy’s Bed

The girls asked if they could sleep in my bed tonight. Daddy is away and I said, "Yes, it’s a special occasion and you can sleep in my bed IF and ONLY IF after I put you down there is no talking, fussing, giggling, calling Mommy or moving around."

Longtime readers of the blog will know that in the past, the "sleeping in Mommy’s bed" experiment usually ended in extreme frustration for me, and the girls being told several times that they had to go to their bed, which they resisted until finally one of them got so sick of being yelled at that she asked to go back to her bed.

So here’s what happened tonight.

I got several calls to come upstairs, but they were really all legit.

  • Close the door a little more. (M)
  • A is touching me. (M)
  • A isn’t staying on her side of the bed. (M) (This was the one time I got annoyed).
  • I want to give you a hug and a kiss. (A)
  • I can’t find my pillow. (A) (I didn’t go up for that one).
  • I need to go pee-pee. (M)
  • I need to go pee-pee. And I need to go poopy. (A)
  • I want to give you a hug and a kiss. (A)
  • I can’t find Bunny. (A)
  • I want to go back to my own bed. (M)

So in the end they went back to their own beds. But they were so good – no fussing, little laughing. I think they were honestly trying to go to sleep. Poor M in the end just couldn’t get comfortable. So now they are in their beds. And I am glad that the reason they won’t try to sleep in my bed in the foreseeable future isn’t because I yelled at them too much, but because they decided on their own that they don’t enjoy it.

Tonight Buppie called and A asked her to play the piano for her through the phone and A would guess the song. Then A played "Do a Deer" on the toy keyboard through the phone to Buppie. I took a photo tonight that I love – A has Buppie on speakerphone and has cute PJs on, and M is wearing a princess dress and holding a soccer ball. Just a perfect snapshot of the evening.

M and A look so adorable, and so grown up. It’s hard to believe how much they have matured. They are still gorgeous and so lovely.
Love,
Aunt Ann
