We are now in France! We drove here yesterday after our last morning in Amsterdam, which we spent taking a boat around the canals. The ride was great- relaxing and interesting to see things from a different perspective. Then we had a l-o-o-o-n-g drive through the Netherlands and Belgium to get to France. We arrived very late in Bayeux after eating random snack food from rest stops. It had to happen. We stayed in Bayeux last night and then today saw the tapestry and Omaha Beach and the American cemetery in Normandy. It was amazing to see the beach with its very low tide, as well as the German lookouts at Pointe D'Oc. The rain held off and we had good weather today. It has been cooler than expected and I did not bring enough warm stuff. But we've done pretty well with rain so no complaints.
A few things I forgot to mention last post:
- We really liked the Van Gogh museum. What made it so good was the audio guide that you could listen to at your own speed as you walked past the paintings. N said to me during the tour, "This is the most interested I have been in an art museum. And it helps that there are no naked people in the pictures."
- A and I befriended a guy who was overseeing a group of workmen outside the hotel in Amsterdam because he had a sweet dog with him who he brought 2 out of the 3 days we were there. We talked to him a lot. His dog's name is "Boy". We took lots of pics of the pup.
I am having a terrible time uploading pics. Will try again tomorrow.
