The Tao of M

M said some memorable things this weekend.

First, I have been complaining that the salon we go to for the girls’ haircuts is a rip-off — $30 for a three year-old’s hair. That means it’s $60 every time I go now, plus a tip, for a half an hour of haircutting, minus shampoo. My stylist tPaul old me he’d cut the girls’ hair for $20 each. I made them appointments with Paul for yesterday, but A told me she didn’t want to go to Paul. She wanted to go back to Nini at the salon we’ve always gone to. I decided that $20 was worth meltdown-avoidance, and canceled the appointment with Paul and instead took them to Nini yesterday.

On the way to the salon, M said to me, "Mommy, you should tell Nini that she is too expensive." I laughed and said, "I don’t know, M, maybe you should tell her that instead." She shook her head, and said, "No, that isn’t something I like to talk to people about." Very astute.

Then today, after nap, she looked at me and said, "I’m still tired." I asked her how she could be tired when she had just woken up from her nap. She said, "I’m tired from all the stores yesterday."

Amen.
