This weekend has been rather busy with a few unexpected detours along the way. Daddy has been at Camp Nebagamon and the kids and I have been home. Here's what has happened:
M soccer tournament – she played yesterday but hurt her fingers and by this morning, she was in too much pain to play today. She woke up very early – 645 – to go to the tournament and supported her team – but she didn't play. Today we went to an urgent care facility to have her fingers x-rayed. Thankfully, nothing is fractured, so her fingers are now "buddy wrapped" and she will have to take it easy until they feel better. The team won their third game but lost the first two. She played well yesterday. There is a second goalie this year so she doesn't have to play every game.
N woke up a few times during the night and when I put him back down early this morning, I realized that he was very hot. He had a fever – ugh. After M went to soccer and he had woken up again, I took him to MinuteClinic and… he has strep! Poor guy. He was a great sport – culture, medicine, etc. He was really good. And he will be able to go to school on Tuesday. We went to the Nats game as planned so that he could get the kids PJ giveaway (they are awesome!) and we stayed for 5 innings before we went home. It was extremely hot so we moved around to be in the shade. When we left, Nats were losing… which they did. But we had a lot of fun and N was a good sport about everything. He also enjoyed pizza and Dippin' Dots.
A had a fun day – she went to see Crazy Rich Asians with Sarah, Hannah, Nikhil and Shivani. It was her second time but she enjoyed it as much as the first. She also babysat for N for a few hours so that M and I could go to the clinic.
It has been a very long day! But hopefully everyone is on the mend. Tonight we had breakfast for dinner – pancakes and bacon – and it was good for all of us.
Here is N at the baseball game:
A note from M's coach:
Just wanted to send a quick note about this weekend. We faced a really good opponent first game which really didn’t let me experiment much as we were in way over our heads. This was not ideal for a first match having little training with the high school schedule etc. We had little chance against that group but was happy we fought hard and played better as the game went on.
Second game we did well, second half we found ourselves a bit. We are a thin in the back and we were able to find some good options, you could see us getting more confident and comfortable. I felt like the game against SAC despite the loss was really the one we learned a lot from and a bit of a turning point and good for our confidence.
Third game after the sluggish start we took over, that group had beaten SAC so for us to dominate the game was nice to see. I felt we got better each game which is all you can ask for really. I feel like I know the team much better now and I was happy the girls were so positive to a new line up 4-2-3-1 with some trying new positions etc.
Will be a challenging fall dealing with high school, but I am very happy with the positive attitudes and how well we are starting to gel. I see a very coachable bunch with the talent very evenly spread out. Everyone should see plenty of minutes, we really don’t have a bench per say as there is not really a drop in play when we sub just different styles and maybe roles differ a bit.
