Here is the update on N's week at school:
We made it to the end of the second week of school! We are still off to a great start! Next week we are diving into curriculum work and continuing Beginning of Year (BOY) testing.Just a reminder: each Friday (or Sat/Sun), I will send a weekly update with important updates, dates, information, specials for the next week. The email will also include what we did that week in reading/writing/math/science or social studies. Next week's email will have a few more details on what we did during each core subject since we will be begin teaching reading and math skills next week. I will also be posting pictures to our classroom shutterfly site periodically so check that out as well. Please make sure that the navy blue school folders are going back and forth from school/home each day. Homework will be sent home on Tuesday! If you know your child does NOT have headphones yet, please send a pair in on Tuesday of next week, as we will be learning how to use our laptops in our classroom, taking the iReady math test and beginning to work on ST Math. This week we continued to spend a lot of time on learning about each other, our classroom and our school. We talked about ways to make and lose friends. We discussed what angry and silly feels like, what makes us feel these ways and what we can do when we feel those emotions. We learned a few must do and may do's for Words Their Way, we started writing in our writing journal and practiced reading to self. We practiced Marcy Cook (math games) and other math centers this week also. We have almost finished taking our BOY DIBELS (aka phonics) assessments. Next, we will start our TRC assessment to fid out what level I should begin teaching your child on in Guided Reading. We completed our writing assessment today!! We also completed our math paper assessment!!! Some of the class has started their iReady assessment and we will all finish next week.We had a lockdown drill today (Friday 8/31). The kids did really well dropping what they were doing and moving quietly to our safe place in our room. They were even complimented by Ms. Beck on how well they were hiding and keeping quiet when she came by to release us from the drill!Today was our August birthday celebration!! We got to celebrate Aiden, Will, Lucia and Pepper this month with popsicles, cupcakes and juice! Thank you to the parents of these kids for sending in something to make their celebration so much fun! I will be sending a separate email to September birthday parents very soon!It has been a very busy, but productive week!!!
Tonight we went over to the Murphys' to have dinner over there. We ordered from Spices. It was fun – M and Aidan caught up on GDS stuff and N built a really cute fort for the cats.
So that's the end of the last week before school starts! M&A seem ready. Oh, M's Chinese I issue has been resolved favorably thanks to Daddy's swift advocacy!
