When I got home tonight, the girls had constructed a shelter on the white sofa made out of pillows, decorated on top and on the sides with pretty pastel tutus and tiaras. Inside the shelter, Piggy and Bunny and Cousin Bunny and Baby and Scooter Baby were sleeping very peacefully. A made me close my eyes and tiptoe over to see them. She said, "They are sleeping in the Sukkah!"
I went to a conference on Monday and picked up some free books from Hooked on Phonics (remember them?). They are workbooks that require children to do things like trace shapes, circle shapes, draw lines between matching shapes, color in various pictures, etc. (This is the pre-K version). The girls love them! We did a lot of pages tonight.
At the girls’ school, they are learning about elections. There will be an election in their classroom between an apple and a banana. Tonight A said she was going to vote for apple. Then M said she was going to vote for banana because she can’t eat apples with her still slightly loose tooth. Then M said she was going to vote for both. Then A said she was going to vote for both. We told them that just as Mommy and Daddy can’t vote for Barack AND McCain – we have to pick one – they have to choose between apple and banana. Both girls said they will vote for apple. Daddy said he wanted to vote for apple too, and they said he couldn’t. "Why not?", he asked. "I like apples better." Their answer: "Because you don’t go to school anymore!"
Ballet started again yesterday. Both girls were very happy to see Ms. Eve, and according to Imogene, the feeling was mutual.
