Today, the kids came to my office with me to help decorate the walls. We have something going at work where we can each spend up to $100 to buy decor for our offices. We went to Michael's and bought paints, brushes, etc. and then went to my office where each of them got a wall to do what they wanted with.
M chose to create the Homesnap logo on the wall using frog tape to create the house and a piece of cardboard to create the square. She then used burnt orange spray paint to create a cool, industrial look.
N created a whole city, with two rainbows, some flowers, the sky and sun, and a man flying. He is flying to the grocery store, which is where the flowers were. He used finger paints and tempera paints.
A painted a funny saying on the wall, using frog tape to create lines to keep things even, and then mixed 6 kinds of glitter paint together and painted a stenciled floral design in six places throughout the saying.
We all had a lot of fun. The kids liked the office – particularly the free snacks and the pop-a-shot machine.
Before they came here, M&A had been at a Camp Louise/Airy reunion in Westminster Maryland. They had a good time, especially because their group of five was all there. They also slept over at Amanda's and had a really fun time there.
M told me today that it was one of her best days ever: "I woke up at Amanda's, had a Camp Louise reunion, met the kid who was a runner-up on Chopped Jr., then went to Michael's where I bought supplies for my melting crayon project, then painted your office, and then had Z Burger for dinner! What could be better?"
N had a playdate this morning with his friend Owen. It was a little more wild than N's usually playdates – not much crafting going on! – but he had a lot of fun.
I told N tonight that I am proud of him because he is very open minded when it comes to books. If a book is kind of different or strange or too old for him, he never interrupts me or asks not to read it. I'll ask him how it was, after, and he can always come up with something he liked about it. So sweet.
