Election Day

The girls had a double lesson in democracy today. First, they came with me to vote this morning. I did a paper ballot (electronic line was too long) and had to fill in the narrow line to designate my choice. The girls wanted to do it, but I told them it was too important and that I had to do it myself. When we were done, we all got "I Voted" stickers. A immediately threw hers out when we got outside.

They were a little late for school, but they made it in time to participate in a voting exercise at school. Their class has been doing a campaign for Apple vs. Banana over the last few weeks. Today, they had to "register" (sign their names) and then go to a curtained voting booth (which looked suspiciously like a puppet theater) and do a confidential vote for Apple vs. Banana. (In case you’re wondering, A voted for Apple and M voted for Banana, because her tooth prevents her from biting into apples these days). Abigail voted for Apple. Apparently they won’t find out who won until tomorrow.

It’s only 1:50 PM, so no word on election results yet. Tonight we’re watching election returns at Chris and Laurie’s house. This is also Old Aidan’s house, but we are no longer going to call him Old Aidan. Aidan himself called M last week to ask that the girls not call him that anymore. He said it makes him cry when he gets home! So sad. So now he’s just Aidan.

Lisa says:

I vote apple. While I sympathize with the tooth issue, I have to go with my gut… can’t wait for the official results.
