This is my first post from Family Camp. We arrived on Tuesday and it is now Friday night. We have one more night here – tomorrow – and then we leave early on Sunday. So much has happened since we got here. Overall we have had a lot of fun. The weather was bad for one day and it has been chilly at night but we've had fun regardless. It's a very nice group of families and Daddy is having fun reliving lots of Nebagamon memories. Maybe he will write a post about what it's like to be back here as a dad with his kids? In the meantime, here is what we've done.
Tuesday: arrived around 6, just in time for dinner. Had dinner, then Daddy and I unpacked the bunk and the kids went to make s'mores. We got used to where everything was, got situated, etc.
Wednesday: in the morning, N went to arts and crafts where he made a bowl. Daddy stayed with N. M had a sailing lesson and went sailing, and A did a kayak ride with me and then played Newcomb with some kids. I went for a long kayak ride. Then we had lunch, and after lunch N and I went to archery (he improved greatly and hit the target on his second round!). M and A went to mini-soccer, which didn't last long, and then played tennis for a long time. I joined them for tennis and N picked up all of the balls that went all over the place. So sweet. Wednesday night we went to Quiz Bowl, which was a trivia game. We all played and we all did well!
Thursday: it rained all day. In the morning, M and N went to MOCA (cooking) and made cheese grits, and A and I read at the main house. Daddy talked to people and looked up old photos of himself. After lunch, N and M and I made tie-dye shirts (which came out great!) and A read in the bunk. At night, there was a camp-wide treasure hunt for gold and silver nuggets and pirates. It sounds weird but it was fun, like many things at this camp!
Today, the weather cleared up a bit so we could be outside a lot more. This morning, N and I went to a fish hatchery about 15 minute away. We got to feed the fish and see them swim to the surface to eat the food, which was great. Daddy and A and M did the climbing wall. This afternoon, I went kayaking again and Daddy did a bike ride, and M and A and N did Yarn Mania at the arts and crafts area. N did a little swimming in the lake. Tonight was the camp talent show. Lots of songs.
We have one more day and lots of things to cram in. Tomorrow night is Council Fire which Daddy is really looking forward to.
I think the kids have all had a great time, especially N who has a lot of independence here. There are a lot of kids around so he's not the only little guy. M&A have played lots of tennis. We've met some nice families who we will stay in touch with.
I will post pics at the end of the trip – wifi not strong here and it's late (and cold!)
