First Post From Spain

Quick update from Spain!

We are two days into our trip. We landed in Spain early in the Am on Tuesday and went straight to our hotel, the Westin in Madrid. They were kind enough to let us check in (930AM!) and we napped for a little while. Then we went out and got some lunch in Plaza Mayor, then meandered our way back to the hotel. We were still exhausted due to barely sleeping on the flight out, so we ended up napping again in the afternoon. Then we went to the Prado, which is open until 8PM, saw some art (mostly Velazquez and Bosch and some others), walked through the botanical gardens, and went out for tapas. I wish we could say we all slept well, but Daddy pulled an all-nighter (happy vacation!) and M and I tossed and turned all night til 530 AM. At least I got to follow the Nats in real time and do the x-word.

Unsurprisingly, we slept til 11AM. All we did in Madrid today was have lunch and then see the museum that houses Guernica, "the most important painting of the 20th century". We walked back to the hotel, got our stuff and went to the airport where we picked up a rental car. Then we drove to Valencia, which took about 4 hours. Thankfully everything here ends very late as we headed out to dinner around 9:30. (It is now 1:20 AM and N is still awake!). We went to a tapas bar, where the tapas are all laid out and you pick what you want to eat. It was pretty yummy. Valencia is the third largest city in Spain but it isn't super touristy. The tapas restaurant is in the old city and our hotel is about 15 minutes walk away.

The weather is warm and sunny and Spain is relaxing. Great kickoff to the vacation, other than the all-nighter. I strangely haven't been taking a lot of photos. Here are a few so far:
