Today was one of those lucky days when I volunteered at the Lafayette library at 8:45 AND Yellow Base had library during the same time. I got to see N when he came to class and spent a little time with him when he was looking for a book to check out. A few funny things happened. First, the librarian said that only certain kids could take books out because they didn't have overdue books. (N was one of them because I returned one this morning that we had had since October). Two girls came up to him and suggested that he take out a book that they have selected - one that I didn't think N would like. He seemed sort of puzzled but didn't commit. I suggested that we ask the librarian if she could find a book that he wanted – something with numbers up to 100 that his friend Sarah had checked out before. The librarian couldn't identify which book it was, so he gave up on it, but the two girls were still asking him to take out the other book. "I don't want that book!", he shouted at them, and one of them explained to me that they wanted that book for story time in the classroom and that they couldn't take books out, so they wanted N to. He wanted none of it. Then as he was leaving, he grabbed a book he really wanted - The Supreme Court – and checked it out. The whole thing was very funny, and very N.
N came home with a sticker on him from school reminding us that he needs to wear sneakers tomorrow for Jump Rope for Heart. I thought that was a clever way to send home a reminder.
Tonight N finished his book of family handprints.
A and I are greatly enjoying the Key and Peele East vs West football names. Hingle McCringleberry and L'Carpetron Dookmarriot and Javaris Jaar Javarison-Lamar and all of the others.
