What do we have to show for our Saturday?
It was a day of two steps forward, one step back. M and A had ballet but baseball was cancelled because of a wet field. Daddy went to pick up a suit but the pants were too short so it is being re-tailored. We ordered a pizza from Homemade Pizza but accidentally ordered deep dish and it wasn't what we expected. N pooped in the bathtub. I went to pick up meds from CVS and the pharmacy was closed. We went to the shoe store to get sandals for both girls but didn't find any for M (but she did get casual Tevas and a pair of sneakers). That kind of day. Good intentions, mixed results.
A had a playdate with Lucky at Lucky's foster mom's house, which sounded like it was a lot of fun. It was a cute report to hear what A did on a grownup playdate – though by all accounts they both had fun.
I have to report on yesterday. I went to the girls' classrooms for their poetry presentations for Mother's Day. They were REALLY nice. I was very touched by what they wrote. I have scanned in some of the poems and videotaped the girls making their presentations. I think I will share some of the poems today and some later.
A wrote this for me:
You fill me up with joy and light
having you around is just a delight
you really are an amazing cook
and you are really smart you read every book
you can really handle so much in a day
I cannot stand when you go away
you make me the happiest person in the best way
even though there's so much more to say
happy mother's day!!
She also wrote this with her friend Julia (it's a series of haikus)
Ocean by Alexa F. and Julia D.
fish swimming slowly
the waves swaying towards the shore
shark catching dinner
clear crystal water
starfish as bright as the sun
very pretty fish
splash goes the dolphin
very colorful coral
seals barking loudly
the whales' noisy moan
mermaids combing their long hair
spiky puffer fish
baby seahorses
sea shells washing up on shore
guppies swimming fast
the salty water
the ocean is beautiful
the glimmering sea
More from A in a future post – there are lots of amazing poems.
Here are some from M. The first is her acrostic for Mother's Day:
My Mom
Gets a lot of things done so she can spend time with me
As a kid, I think she was very talented at making up songs
You ware the ABSOLUTE best mom in the world
Loves her family, including A, N, my dad, Lucky, Allie and me
Energetic and beautiful
Watches a show called Veep
Every time she comes to my bed, I try to make it last as long as I can
Independent and VERY smart
Saw pictures of her as a kid and she looks like my sister
Washes my clothes and helps out with EVERYTHING
A favorite color of hers is purple
She knows how to sew buttons back on to my clothes
She is such a lovable person
Eats delicious food that she makes for herself and my dad
Russia is a place we have been together and it was so much fun to visit places with her
Her haiku:
Sun
In the universe
Staring at stars and planets
Dark nights and bright days
And this is a Cinquain:
Nathan[iel]
Loving, baby,
Cute, cuddly, sweet, awesome
Entertainer, Buddha, handsome,
