N Gets Into His Reading

I am sitting in the waiting room at THEARC, the theater in Anacostia where the WSB opens The Nutcracker every year. We have been here since 5 (it is now 8). Actually, we got here at 5:15 thanks to a broken down truck on the Suitland Parkway. Those were 15 crucial minutes during which the clowns were performing on stage for the first time. We missed them. Big bummer. The rest of the evening's rehearsals have been in smaller studios.

I am not sure that there is a more inconvenient location to be on the Monday before Thanksgiving than THEARC at 5PM.

I just got this email from N's teacher Kathryn:

Hi Gayle and Dan:

Today during Snack we read aloud the Aesop fable, The Lion and the Mouse.  We read it with a lot of drama, roaring with the lion, squeaking with the mouse.  Tension rose as the lion got trapped in the net. Would the lion ever be free?!! As you can see, Nate was highly absorbed. Luckily on the next page he could give a sigh of relief, the mouse came to the rescue!

Happy Thanksgiving!
