Nutcracker Tuesday

Tonight I took the girls to see The Nutcracker (thanks Grandma Sandy for the free tix!!). The girls really enjoyed seeing it, and it was a treat to take them. I didn't expect to be so emotional – soon after it started, a wave of memories washed over me. 6 years of driving the girls home from shows, waiting for them at parent pickup, stressing about getting down there for the 6PM call time, white face makeup, analyzing the show (did the butler catch the rat? did anyone make a mistake?), waiting with grandparents and friends for them to come out from backstage, all our our various Nutcracker inside jokes. The girls are growing up – not even in the show anymore – and it hit me like a ton of bricks during the party scene. Lots of tears. Then I had 5 more fresh opportunities for tears: soldiers, snow angels, butterflies, bees (!!!) and clowns. It was an emotional night!

Daddy is hosting his Nebagamon reunion here tonight. Lots of yummy leftovers tomorrow! We got home in time for the girls to make an appearance and for me to chat with some people. They are still here at 11:15PM so I am upstairs.

N – one smart boy. Tonight he told me that they are learning about food groups at school. He told me that proteins are meat, eggs, and nuts, and dairy is milk, cheese and yogurt, and grains are rice, bread, pasta and cereal. I think he learned this all today! He remembers so much. He also went to the book fair today with ten dollars and came home with "How Do Dinosaurs Go To Sleep?", which is just the cutest thing ever. He can't read but he knew immediately that it was a dinosaur book from the series. Oh I love that little boy.
