Piggy and Bunny: Postscript

Well, I have good news. Piggy and Bunny are back at home. They were right where A left them in the store and Daddy was there when the store opened (earlier, even) to retrieve them. Thank god. I was still at home this morning when Daddy came back home, and we went over to camp to show A that Piggy and Bunny were back home. She was so excited, she showed Piggy and Bunny to all of her counselors. So good news all around. Our lesson is: Piggy and Bunny and Baby and Blankie never leave the house, except to go on a trip.

A was clingy and weepy at camp dropoff this morning. To be fair, she has a cold and had gotten a little splinter on the way to camp. But her counselor told Daddy today that she is never like that when Imogene drops her off. She suggested that A is playing us a little bit, milking the drama when Mommy and Daddy are around. She’s probably right.

Sometimes, if I get home from work early enough, M will come with me to walk Allie. Tonight was one of those nights. She talked the entire walk, chatting, pointing things out, telling me things about the day, and asking questions. It’s adorable, the nonstop talking.

Have I mentioned lately how cute the girls are? They are really, really cute.

As Sarah indicated, we’ve all done it! (Left a crucial stuffed animal in a temporarily irretrievable spot.) But when I read your initial post about this, I couldn’t help thinking that it couldn’t have happened in a better place…kids’ furniture stores must see a whole lot of forgotten stuffed animals, and are probably very, very careful about making sure they stay put until their owner returns. When Tim was about 3, he and I were at an indoor ATM and his frog disappeared. (I was using the ATM at the time and didn’t see this.) We left; then he realized he didn’t have Froggie so we went back to the ATM. Froggie was no where to be found on the high counter where Tim remembered placing him. Then finally it occurred to me that what felt to Tim like a countertop was actually the opening to a trash receptacle. Froggie had fallen into the trash bin…which again doesn’t sound so bad (given that it was a bank, not a fast food restaurant) except that in these days of identity theft, it is VERY VERY hard to get into the trash at a bank! We managed though…had a very happy reunion…and went on to have similar experiences ten or twenty more times over the next five years. If you’re actually able to stick with the rule of not letting the stuffed friends leave the house, you will have solved a big problem!

Today was a happy day for A since Piggy and Bunny have come home again. I enjoyed reading that M accompanied you while you walked Allie. Where was A? I agree with you that the girls are so cute.
