Quiz Bowl

Ok so much to catch up on.

Let’s talk about N’s performance at Quiz Bowl. He did really well! I’ll copy what his Quiz Bowl teacher sent to the school:

As you all know, GDS hosted its first MS quizbowl tournament (the “GDS QB4ALL Invitational”) on Saturday, Feb 24th.  It was a huge success.  We had 125 students on 28 teams from 13 schools in the region compete.  GDS fielded 3 teams (13 students) in the 6th grade and younger division.

GDS’s A team went undefeated in eight rounds finishing as the champions.  GDS’s B and C teams also did well finishing in 5th place with a 5-3 record and 9th place with a 4-4 record.  This was an incredible accomplishment, especially considering that the GDS quizbowl team just formed in January and this was their first in-person tournament ever.  Way to go, Hoppers!

In addition to team trophies, medals were also awarded to the top 10 individual scorers in each of the two divisions.  Of note, out of about 60 students in the 6th grade and younger division, GDS 5th grader Paul Block-Prime was the highest individual scorer.  GDS 6th graders Nate Feldman and Jake Teitelbaum placed 4th and 8th, respectively, and GDS 5th grader Oliver Elleithee placed 10th.  Jason Saferstein, Cadel Behbahani and Ari Arora placed within the top 18.

GDS is obviously doing a spectacular job in the classrooms.  In the geography category, GDS students Jake, Wyatt Fotiades, Paul and Nate won 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place, respectively.  Similarly, in the current events category, GDS again swept the first four places with Nate, Max Badel, Jake and Ari taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively. In the literature category, the top scorer was Jason, followed by Max and Oliver who tied for 4th.  Paul won the science and history categories, and Oliver and Nate tied for 4th in history.

Yay Nate! So proud of you.
