Race Day

Daddy did the triathlon this morning!

It was a tough day. First of all, it was extremely hot. Mid-90s, which is unusual for DC in Sept. Not ideal for a race of any sort. Second, he got a flat tire at Mile 3 of the bike ride. It took over an hour to get it fixed. But he persevered, got the bike fixed, and finished the race despite the mid-day heat. Nice job, Daddy! As M said, "He didn’t give up!" We went downtown and caught him at Mile 5, and again at the finish line. It was hot and the girls did a lot of walking, but they were excited to see Daddy.

After the race we picked up Daddy’s bike and came home. Then it was off to Toys R Us for big-girl bikes. Two-wheelers, with training wheels. M’s is blue with purple accents and A’s is purple with pink accents. Then we went to the mall… Old Navy for some new dresses… and then a quick but fun visit with Aliya and Tuvana, who is in town for a week. We finally met baby Anil while he was awake!

Then… another treat… we went to dinner at the pizza place and were joined by Buppie and Aunt Tequila, who were co-photographing a wedding today. They were hot and tired and happy to see us!

No nap again today… and some very sleepy girls by bedtime. At least eliminating the nap has cut the bedtime routine by about 80%.

Here are some photos of the race today. Girls on the metro; Daddy at Mile 5; Daddy at finish line; M wearing Daddy’s medal.
