Strep Wonderland

Instead of a fun day driving to Pennsylvania, splashing in the sprinkler and slides, and going on fun rides, here is how the day went:

5:00 AM – M comes into our bed and says that her ears hurt

6:00 AM – we find that M has a fever

7:00 AM – M is up for the day and even she says that she doesn't want to go to Dutch Wonderland

8:00 AM – message is left for pediatrician

8:25 AM – pediatrician calls back; we have a 10:15 appointment

8:30 AM – A wakes up to learn that we are not going to DW

9:00 AM – we go to breakfast at the diner. Bagel for M, pancakes for A and me, and shakes for the girls. I know that M isn't feeling well when she has less than 1/5th of her shake.

10:45 AM – doctor says M probably has a virus, but does a strep test anyway.

10:51 AM – M has strep

Rest of day is spent inside, mostly watching TV. I went to work for a few hours but came home early to be with M.

I am very sad that we weren't able to go to DW, but am hoping that we will go next Wednesday instead. I have blocked the date out on my calendar so for now, it's a go. We are hoping that A doesn't get sick too, especially because we are headed to Martha's Vineyard to visit friends this weekend.

Funny: A spent the whole appointment trying to get attention from the doctor, who was examining M. She made a lot of comments and talked about her own medical history the whole time. I also showed the doctor some funny patches on A's skin, and afterwards, A wanted me to tell everyone that she had an appointment too. Later, M said to A, "When I am in there getting looked at, I don't want you hobnobbing with the doctor." (Hobnobbing?)

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

I hope M has a quick and full recovery. I’m sure all of you were disappointed about not going to DW. It was interesting to read about A’s interaction with the doctor during M’s exam.
Love,
Aunt Ann
