Sunday’s Theme: Teachers

Today we took the girls to their weekly creative movement class. M & A are causing some problems because A insisted on wearing her tutu dress and M, while she could be persuaded to wear a plain leotard, insisted on wearing a tutu skirt over it. So while the poor teacher was trying to get the little girls to come in dance outfits that are as plain as possible, M & A cruised in late, of course (due to some parking garage confusion), wearing the contraband finery.  At the end of class, the teacher again requested that the girls leave their tutus at home. We’ll see what happens next week…

Aidan’s birthday party was this afternoon. When we walked in, we had a HUGE surprise — M & A’s teacher LIz was there! Her son is in Aidan’s class. The girls were extremely surprised and excited to see Liz. M couldn’t stop smiling and got all shy. I also noticed that she watched Liz throughout the whole party – always looking to see where she was and whether M could catch her eye.  I kind of felt a little self-consious too, for some reason… one thing Liz doesn’t see at school is my mothering. At one point, A got fussy and wouldn’t share the trampoline. I got her to try a different activity with me and she got fussy again. I looked at Liz and said, "Does she do this to you too?" Thankfully, Liz said no. That’s a relief.

In the bath tonight, I interrupted A’s drawing on the bathtup with bath crayons so that I could wash her hair. She said, "Wait, I am doing serious work here!"

Thankfully, the gymnastics birthday party wore the girls out. I hope they go to bed easily tonight.

It’s so great that each of your girls has a mind of her own. They are able to express their own feelings about things and not copy their sister. You’re doing such a great mothering job.
