Trip Update #4: Paris and home

We returned from our trip on Friday and it is now Sunday. A lot has happened since we returned, but I want to make sure I cover the end of the trip.

During our second full day in Paris, we went to the Louvre in the morning and then spent the afternoon walking around the Marais. The Louvre looks amazing – so well kept up, so enormous, such an impressive collection. We saw the Mona Lisa quickly because the room was so crowded, and spent a little time in the Greek antiquities section seeing Winged Victory and Venus. N was not impressed with all the nudity. ("This place is gross. Would not recommend.")

At the Marais, we recreated some pics from our trip in 2011 when the girls were 5. We also saw Dad's friend Lizzie and her mom Kati that night, and had dinner with his friend Matt and his son Alexandre. So a little social activity for the end of the trip.

Our trip home was relatively smooth despite some delays. Thankfully, we had negative covid tests in France and again upon arriving back in the US.

Since returning home, here's some things that have happened: M took the SAT, M went to a Rising Voices retreat, M went to her senior class trip, A was reunited with Charlotte, N went to a birthday party (Ayan) and had a haircut and a playdate with Cole. We found out who his teacher is – she's supposed to be good – and some of the kids in his class. We've seen Grampy and Grandma, and I've seen Sarah and Laurie, and we've had family Zooms again, so things are right with the world.

As is his tradition, Dad quizzed the kids about their favorite memories from the trip. Here they are:

Nate:
1.  Eiffel Tower + walking around Paris, esp in Marais
2.  Chenonceau, since no one else was there
3.  Going to first amusement park
4.  Van Gogh Museum
5.  Canals in Amsterdam

6.  My #1 hotel — the Chateau de Perreux, since I had my own room
7.  Mont Saint Michel
8. Chambord double helix staircase
9.  Anne Frank house
10.  Ambassade hotel

(I asked about the Louvre — "definitely not.  I did not enjoy myself.  Too many naked people.")
(Normandy — "you're not supposed to enjoy yourself there")

Honorable mentions:
– boat rides in Amsterdam and Paris
– St. Chapelle

Hotels ranked:
1.  Chateau de Perreux ("I had my own bathroom and room, plus it's in a chateau!.  Those two reasons alone make it #1, without even including that it has a pool and a robot who cuts the lawn.")
2.  Ambassade ("very cute hotel with a great chess set, and I enjoyed my stay")
3.  Westin in Paris ("my expectations were higher but still was great; liked the swing; close to #2)
4.  Mont Saint Michel motel (close to #3; a great hotel with good service and a good breakfast buffet)
5.  Churchill in Bayeux ("the bed was uncomfortable, the room was small, and the front desk guy was very weird"

Food:
1. Crepes place by chateau
2.  Auberge de Labourer (dessert alone would qualify it; close to #1)
3.  Steak in Amboise

Alexa:
1.  All of Amsterdam
2.  Normandy cemetery

Maddie:
1.  Food throughout – 2 places in Amboise and Laboreur
2.  Walking around Paris
3.  Amsterdam – Van Gogh Museum, Ann Frank, Portuguese synagogue, flower market
