Trip Update #4: Paris

Yesterday we spent the morning in the Loire Valley and then drove to Paris late in the day. The morning was good – we had a nice lunch in Amboise (crepes!) and then toured the chateau. The rooms aren't anything memorable but the grounds were gorgeous. Way up on a hill overlooking the Loire, lots of grass and landscapery. Lovely. We left Amboise and drove to Chambord, which is an enormous chateau. There was barely a line to get in but it was very crowded inside, so we admired the double helix staircase and the terrace and got out of there. We drove to Paris and had to deal with bad traffic getting into town. Checked into the hotel – right next to the Louvre! – and then had to deal with returning the car which was confusing and sttressful. Last night wasn't the best night ever.

But we ar ein Paris! Today was lovely – sunny and warm after a cool start – and the girls did a great job planning the itinerary today. We did a boat tour in the morning, walked around Ile St Louis and Ile De La Cite (including Ste. Chapelle), saw the damaged Notre Dame, got picnic food, took a cab to the Eiffel Tower and ate on the grass outside the Tower. Then a long walk to Arc de Triomphe, then a long walk down the Champs Elysees, then a walk to our hotel. Then Dad went to see an old friend, the girls rested and N and I went to the amusement park outside the hotel. He did some fun rides/activities and then we went out to dinner in the Marais. It was a late night but yummy food and we are excited to go back to the Marais tomorrow after a visit to the Louvre.

I just took a covid test in the hotel room. Negative. Phew.
