Update from SF

It is early Saturday morning – I am clearly still on east coast time – and I finally have a moment to update the blog. We've had a fun trip so far and have actually covered a lot of ground in just 2 days. We got in late on Wednesday night – our flight was delayed – so the girls were up waaaay past their bedtime. Here is what they did on the plane: watched The Parent Trap, watched one episode of iCarly, did their favorite sticker books (Dancing and Dolls from Around the World), and played a few iPad games. Considering they had to sit still for 7 1/2 hours, they did a great job.

Our hotel is great for kids, and gave them a small backpack upon arrival with some small toys in it, which they took to immediately. That revved them up – thanks, Omni! – but we were able to get them to sleep pretty quickly.

On Thursday, we kicked off the day with a visit to my old law firm, Farella Braun and Martel. We visited my friend Bill for a bit and enjoyed his gorgeous view. Then we headed out to Chinatown and a dim sum lunch at my favorite restaurant there, New Asia. Yum. Then we walked to Fisherman's Wharf and saw the sea lions before boarding a ferry to Sausalito. The girls got an up close view of Alcatraz and Angel Island, and then we got off in Sausalito and had ice cream and bought M a new webkinz ("Cherry").

Back to SF, where we picked up a Zipcar and drove the girls by my old apartment, Daddy's old apartment, the steep hill on Filbert and curvy Lombard Street. We ended up ordering room service for the girls – which they were SO excited about – and watching American Idol.

Yesterday was a kid-oriented day. We started at House of Air, a massive warehouse structure that has been converted into a trampoline place. The girls jumped and bounced and played dodgeball for an hour. M said her stomach hurt, but she revived to play dodgeball. Then it was off to Golden Gate Park, where we went to the Academy of Sciences Museum, saw a cool rainforest exhibit, the aquarium and some cute penguins. Our friend Margot met us there with her kids.

We drove back downtown via the beach, back to the hotel, and then went out to dinner in North Beach with our friends Craig and Karen and their son Nick. A late, steep walk back to the car, next to Daddy's old apartment, and back to the hotel while Daddy returned the Zipcar.

So now it's 6AM and I am up while everyone's sleeping. We have a mellower day ahead of us today – cable car, maybe the Exploratorium, maybe some poking around Chinatown again. We have a VERY early flight tomorrow so it will hopefully be an early night.

We've taken lots of pictures, of course, which I haven't uploaded yet. Here are two from my phone – one of the doorway to my old apartment on Jackson Street, and one of Filbert Street before the huge drop.

I enjoyed the descriptions of all the things you did in San Francisco. It’s a great city. It sounds like all of you really had a good time there. Love the photos and am looking forward to more.
Love,
Aunt Ann
