Weekend Report

I was too tired to post last night, so I have two days to report on.

Busy day yesterday. It started with brunch at Old Aidan’s house, which was fun, if a bit frenetic. Girls at this age are definitely easier than boys, is all I have to say. After brunch, we ran into Buppie on the way home and persuaded her to come to the Container Store with us. Then home for nap.

After nap we did a few puzzles. I am sad to say that jigsaw puzzle mania has waned in our house. I wish I hadn’t bought so many when I did. Perhaps when the weather gets bad, the girls will rediscover the joys of puzzling. That said, A did complete a difficult castle puzzle this morning, which she was very pleased with. Then I took the girls to the TSNS playground for a bit. Some excitement – a truck delivering food to the temple (perhaps a bar mitzvah?) rolled down the loading dock, across the driveway, down a hill, and through a fence to the retirement community next door, apparently right before we got there. Also, we brought Allie with us, despite a sign on the playground that says "Pets are prohibited." The girls were anxious about having Allie there and wanted to leave until I pointed out that there was no one else there and that we would just say we hadn’t seen the sign.

Then it was off to a BBQ at the girls’ friend Lila’s house. Lots of kids, lots of screaming. Thankfully, Buppie gave us a break from kids and babysat so Daddy and I could go to a movie afterwards.

Today, dance was unexpectedly canceled because their teacher was sick. (I suspect a hangover). We went to the mall and got Daddy some new sunglasses and the girls a bunch of new fall clothes from Gymboree. I figure that I have a better chance of buying clothes they will actually wear, rather than reject, if they have a hand in picking out the clothes.

Late nap and then we just hung out at home. Cleaned up, played Chutes and Ladders, and grilled dinner. Of course, due to the late nap, the girls are still up (it’s 10:51 PM).

Some funny things from the weekend:

  • Yesterday they wanted to make "lists of things". A was telling me about a talk she had with Abigail about a school that is only for dogs, and can only accommodate 5 dogs. She listed the five dogs who can come to the school – BASENJI – DALMATION – POODLE – BEAGLE – GREAT DANE.  A brought her list to the BBQ yesterday and showed everyone. M made a list of things in Seattle – WATER PARK – SPACE NEEDLE – SWIMMING POOL
  • Yesterday M said, "I like your earrings, but not that much."
  • M has been waking up very cranky because A gets her up earlier than she’d like to get up. A wakes up and instead of quietly leaving the room, she yells, "MOMMY!" or "DADDY!". Needless to say, M doesn’t like this at all.
  • The girls have been wearing their new fall shoes. With socks. And sundresses. It’s an interesting look.

Two more weeks before school starts.

You and the girls have such a busy life. I certainly admire you. How do you manage to do so much with and for M and A and still work?
You are incredible!
Love,
Aunt Ann

I love that they were anxious about having Allie at the park – that is exactly how I would have reacted. Maybe someday they too will feel guilty about bringing food into movie theaters. : )
